Money it's a gas...Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash..
I don't think the Pink Floyd song could describe our invasion of Iraq any better. Personally I believe that the modern day conflict is strictly corporate, but of course we live in America where you are allowed to stick your head up your own ass and pretend like it's not happening. The greatest example that comes to mind for me anyway is Blackwater, a highly trained organization of jokers riding around at excessive speeds in not only trucks but private aircraft shooting anything that moves. A great example of a pointless shootout was covered by CNN in this video.
Here is another great video obtained by the NY Times about this shootout which took place on September 16th. In this video it goes a little more in depth from actual eye witness accounts. It is fairly chilling you might find, especially when you see the gigantic holes torn into the roofs of vehicles from aerial fire from helicopters, one civilians car would be hit by a grenade from a grenade launcher. It is obvious that privatization of our military will be our downfall, how could we ever call ourselves humanitarians when we have our companies butchering the innocent like this and then be let off the hook because they are blatantly behind the scenes contributing to these officials campaigns and supporting their causes to keep them in office.
Not convinced Blackwater is a crazed group of wannabe cowboys? Watch this video of a helicopter team recklessly flying through cities shooting shit for the hell of it. Bah makes me sick just watching it.
So what do Blackwater, Iraq and money have in common you might be asking? Well it is a fact that former navy seal and chairmen of Blackwater, Erik Prince is an avid Bush administration supporter. As stated in this New York times article, he has made of 325,000$ in political donations to the campaigns of loyal Bush administration personnel. He also has helped get himself into the ties of government by hiring high ranking CIA staff and other government officials that have been well known. It is obvious why these mercenaries have the freedom to do as the please granted by American politicians; not only are they receiving large amounts of money and campaign contributions for reelections, but they have a private military to accomplish any task no matter how inhumane it might be.
So at this point you might be thinking that I am a socialist pig that has been reading to much in his little red book (for those of you lost it was a book full of communist teachings and proverbs pretty much.) It is true that capitalism has pretty much given birth to this great country, after all we capitalized the Indians right off their land. Manifest destiny my friend God put it there so we could take it away from them. Capitalism has done some great things for this country, that will always remain true.
Unfortunately capitalism when motivated by greed has severe consequences; however it's not capitalism that I am disgusted with as much as the actions being taken to have an economic gain if you will (Imperialism). Capitalism doesn't have to be hey we are bigger than you, so all your resources are belonging to us now, capitalism can also be what do we have that we can sell to gain a profit. One point I can agree with Rudolph Giuliani who made a speech here locally as best as I can recall it, "China has a thriving economy, and being the capitalist nation that we are, we should be asking ourselves what can we sell to them?" Obviously there in lies a few problems in that everything we could sell to them is well....made by them in the first place (however this is just another irrelevant issure that pisses me off). All in all I am saying that it is wrong to assume that I am shooting down all forms of capitalism because I am not. I am arguing against imperialism which in my very humble (and right) opinion is what we have become.
I guess the point I am trying to get across would be that America is a super power ,but that should not make us an empire. Imperialism has never worked in the past and it is not logical to say that we deserve anything more than anyone else because of who we are. To revert back to only the strongest survive theory would virtually undo all the work done to preserve peace in the past 100 years. Greed as in all other civilizations will be our downfall.
